Energy Is Contagious.

Resetting in nature.

The scene usually involves a long queue, a delay or a mishap of some sort sprinkled with tired, angry people demanding an explanation. The energy is heightened, thick with resentment that things are not going to plan. You can feel the vibration of disappointment spreading through the room and the frequency drops. Then we find ourselves at the front of the queue and it’s our turn.

“How are you?” He says and pauses respectfully for a response. I’ve watched my husband do this for years now and I find it fascinating how people respond. By simply saying “How are you?'' we hit the reset button and acknowledge the person in front of us and not the situation. The energy in that moment shifts. Nine times out of ten you can see the surprise in the person's face. The pattern has been broken. Their patter has been interrupted and their guard drops. Something in the air changes, just for a few seconds but both parties feel it. I have learned from witnessing these moments that the energy you bring to a situation matters.

I share this because in my yoga course we are following the lunar cycle and this week we were embracing the waning phase where the light slowly starts to leave us. At this time our focus goes inward and our energy dips. We take our queue from the moon to soften and recharge. But why is this important? - Because energy is contagious and anything that is contagious can be potentially dangerous if we don’t give it the attention it deserves. If we don’t take time to pause and breathe is it possible for our energy to cause harm? Unfortunately, the answer is yes.

We all know our lives are busy, some would say too busy. We are expected to run at full throttle all the time. The routine is set and off we go, like little wound up toys bashing and knocking things out the way no matter what. Or even worse, running into an obstacle but we just keep on charging at it until finally, we run out of steam, out of energy.

The moon shows us in the simplest way, to shine at our fullest, we must then take time to retreat, to remember to soften and to recharge.

Our energy is a gift and how we choose to use it can be truly powerful but we must treat it like a precious belonging and not throw it around unabashedly and then expect it to perform in the same way it did twenty years ago. Our energy is fragile and so many factors can affect it.

We need to make time in our everyday lives to let our energy wane. When the moon’s light slowly starts to fade we should join her and go inward. Letting go of anything that no longer serves us. Releasing any tension we have been holding onto. Letting our intuition step forward as we turn down the volume on life for just a moment to rest, to bathe in bubbles, to walk in nature.

Yoga gives us the opportunity to take time for self care. To reset, recharge and then respond to life rather than scream at it when things aren’t going our way. Our practice gives us the chance to become responsible for our energy, teaching us how to take care of it and use it wisely, rather than getting carried away on a frequency that is unbeneficial for ourselves and the people around us.

Then once you have taken the time to recover, share your new found healthy, happy energy with your friends, your family and complete strangers and lets make this world a better place. Energy is contagious. Let's spread the kind, loving, understanding strain rather than the dangerous alternative.

Namaste,
