My Arch Nemesis Is Back!

July in Yorkshire is such a beautiful time of year with a bloom of bright colours, long golden evenings, but unfortunately, its also the too-eager host to my arch nemesis, my antagonist...

The thunder fly!

This tiny, wriggling black bug invades our sunny days armed dangerously with the incredible superpower of tickling! No biting. No stinging. Just a light tickle that can send the sanest of people doolally!

Suddenly, I find myself bursting into a delirious dance of slapping and brushing my skin as the tiny creature’s presence finally takes its hold.

It turns out that this pesky little creature has a special fondness for me when I’m meditating. And that’s when the real spiritual practice begins.
How long can I sit with the aggravating tickle and can I choose my response, rather than just react?

We all have those niggling challenges in our lives.
Those moments when it all gets too much and we flail our arms in the air at the end of our tether.

But what if we could find moments in life to practice a little self-discipline around our reactions?

So for July, the thunder fly is my teacher.
My unexpected guru.
My unlikely ally in helping me grow my spiritual practice.

What’s your version of the thunder fly? That small, persistent thing that tests your patience? Could it be seen as a friend rather than a foe?

Thank you for being here. Sending love and kindness,

Laura x
