When Life Doesn’t Go To Plan.
The Colenso clan of eleven, three generations, headed to Runswick Bay on the Yorkshire coast last weekend in search of adventure. We were ready to embrace the extremes: from the searing heat of a beach tent sauna to the exuberance plunge of the North Sea.
But the reality was far from what we had imagined.
When Dominic and I booked it months in advance, the vision was clear - beaming sun, shorts and T-shirts, flip flops, alfresco fish and chips, and leisurely strolls with ice creams in hand.
Nature, however, had other plans. The rain, cold and grey skies decided to gatecrash our sunny daydream.
Expectations can be tricky things. They often set us up for disappointment. It's worth reminding ourselves that we’re rarely in control, and that maybe, just maybe, we don’t need to be.
Thankfully, the eleven of us Colensos went with it!
Our stormy guests brought with them giggles, connection, a spirit of adventure, and the freedom that comes from letting go. Anything feels possible when you’ve got a good raincoat… or no raincoat at all! 😂
We all had a blast! Thank goodness our expectations loosened their grip leaving us to enjoy what the moment had in store for us.
It reminded me of something yoga teaches so well: to meet the moment as it is not as we want it to be.
How strong are your expectations?
Do they create more dissatisfaction than you’d like?
What might happen if you left them behind at your next event, conversation, or holiday?
You may just find yourself right where you’re meant to be.
Thank you for being here. Sending love and kindness,
