This Quote Changed the Way I See My Habits.
“Practice, and all is coming.”
This powerful quote from yogi Pattabhi Jois has stayed with me for years. On the surface, it’s hopeful and motivating, a gentle nudge to keep showing up to my yoga mat, but it also invites me to ask a deeper question: what am I actually practicing in my life?
Because the truth is, what we repeatedly do is what we become.
When we think of “practice,” we often imagine things like yoga, meditation, journaling, or walking. These positive rituals absolutely strengthen our bodies, calm our minds, and gently shape our future selves in beautiful ways. But what about the things we do without thinking? The unconscious patterns that sneak into our daily lives?
Maybe you wake up and the first thing you tell yourself is, “I’m so tired.”
Maybe when something goes wrong, your inner critic jumps in with harsh words.
Or perhaps when someone cuts you off in traffic, you respond with anger and frustration.
These are practices too. They might be small, fleeting moments but they repeat. And over time, they leave a mark.
The saying goes, practice makes perfect but actually practice makes permanent. So if we want to grow into a kinder, calmer, more grounded version of ourselves, we need to weed out the negative habits and make room for the ones that truly support us.
So maybe this week, you could gently observe what you're practicing in your everyday life. Notice the language you use with yourself. The thoughts that pop up. The little moments of tension and also the moments of peace.
Then choose just two positive practices to nurture over the summer. Something small but powerful like a morning stretch, a kind word to yourself in the mirror, or a few quiet breaths before bed.
Remember: Practice, and all is coming.
Thank you for being here. Sending love and kindness,
