What I Told a Room Full of Women About Growing Older.
I had the pleasure of speaking at the Hovingham Women’s Institute this week.
I gave a forty minute talk on the benefits of yoga and why I feel it’s especially important for women to have a regular practice.
We all had a good laugh when I spoke about the cycle of womanhood - how we begin as the Maiden, evolve into the Mother, and eventually arrive as the Crone.
The word Crone always draws a dramatic reaction. Sadly, society often sees it as a symbol of something old or undesirable. But that’s far from its original meaning. Crone comes from the word crown - a reference to the wisdom that radiates from a woman’s head and spirit.
Our journey through womanhood leads us to our power, to our wisdom, to our crone.
Becoming the Crone is a moment of liberation. When a woman leaves the phase of putting others first and steps into a time where it may just be possible to prioritise her own desires in front of others.
The transformation should be a joyous experience grounded in grace, confidence and deep inner strength.
This quote describes our journey as a woman beautifully.
“On her first bleed the maiden meets her power. As mother, she practises her power. And as crone she becomes her power.”
So wherever you are in your journey of life, maybe take a moment today to congratulate yourself on how you have navigated your travels so far and appreciate how every day, you are growing into your wisdom, your power and your voice.
Thank you for being here. Sending love and kindness,
