Autumn Days.

OCTOBER 18, 2015

I’ve decided Autumn is my favourite season thanks to my yoga practice. My teacher Lilley mentioned back in August that Summer was coming to an end and we would be saying goodbye to the element of fire and welcoming the element metal – leaving Yang and entering Yin. She painted such a beautiful picture of Autumn in that practice that I had no problem waving off Summer. She had highlighted the month of September so much in my mind that I felt that I really, really took it in this year and realised that Autumn is such a beautiful season. First of all, there is no pressure on September weather wise. So when you get a glorious September day it feels like a bonus! – we weren’t expecting it now, we were expecting it in July or August!

Autumn gives us darker mornings so it makes me think Nell just might stay asleep that little bit longer. You may laugh but actually she has been!

Autumn brings a change of wardrobe too which means my lovely Scottish blue skin is all happy and snug under lovely winter colours. And wellies! My favourite footwear is wellies! My beautiful, purple Hunter wellies are worn at every opportunity and Autumn is the perfect excuse because you never know it might just rain?!

But the main reason I think I love the feeling of Autumn now is that I was in my third trimester of pregnancy in the Autumnal months and I loved it. Dom and I had just moved to beautiful York and to me York is made for this time of year. I remember Dom calling me one day from work asking me how I was and my reply was “I feel like I’m living in Disney Land” I had stepped out of our front door and it had felt like someone had waved a magic wand and it was Autumn. The sun was shining and all these beautiful brown and golden leaves were scattered everywhere. I was walking down the cobbled streets that have the feel of Diagon Alley about them and to top it all off a strong, rich smell of chocolate was in the air. As if York is not beautiful enough the city’s Nestle Factory pumps out the sweet smell of chocolate – Definitely Disney Land!

So next time you feel a chill in the air get your favourite jacket on and your wellies if you have a pair and get outside. Kick some leaves and take a deep breathe in and if you are very lucky you might just smell the chocolate in the air.

Namaste!

Lots of Love,
