It’s The End.

It’s the end. Our last day in Spain and it has been glorious.

The unexpected feeling that has filled this last week in particular is a deep connection to the people who came before us.

We have had the pleasure of living in a house that is centuries old. Where everything has been built to last and with stand time. The heavy, strong wooden and iron door to enter the thick, stone building with its protective white walls that have survived centuries of earthquakes with no sign of going anywhere. The dark red, solid floor tiles throughout, giving the space a sense of security and strength.

The town itself with its beautifully cobbled streets, and old trees strategically planted for shade all those years ago.

Everything feels so permanent and purposeful that I have found it deeply settling.

When I reflect on the here and now and our behaviour in this century, to me, it feels the complete opposite. Everything feels a little bit flimsy. A little too disposable, speedy, temporary.

What would happen if we thought of the long term a little more? Building for the people who will come after us? Even with the simplest of things, like the design of a door handle or the shade from a tree?

So I leave Spain today with a great deal of gratitude for the people of the past. For their undeniable effort and workmanship that undoubtedly will be witnessed for generations to come.

Thank you for being here. Sending love and kindness,

Laura x
