Lots Of Hugs.
JUNE 9, 2015
I had to summon all of my will power at 10pm last night to do my 20 minutes of yoga. Dom is away in London on business and it had been a tough day. Nothing terrible had happened, there was no catastrophe, it was just tough. Have you ever had one of those days where everything just seems a little bit out of control? You can’t quite get on top of things? Even if it is just the house work, cooking dinner, bath time and bed for the wee one? Well, I’ve discovered something that really helps and I wanted to share it with you. In fact, it’s something you already have… it’s a brilliant chemical called oxytocin.
Now, I had never heard of oxytocin until I was pregnant and it was hearing about this “wonder hormone” that convinced me I would like to try to have a natural birth. I decided to put my trust in oxytocin. Which is funny because I recently found out it has been nicknamed the “Trust Molecule”. Oxytocin is only found in mammals and it is best known for facilitating birth and breast feeding. As you progress through labour it works as a natural pain killer and once your baby is born and you have “skin to skin” contact with your baby it encourages the body to begin milk production. We also release it in everyday life when we receive physical affection. It’s the chemical responsible for social bonding so we get a hit when we commit generous acts of kindness, when we dance, pray and even when we receive a massage!
Scientists believe that people who release more oxytocin are happier people. So, with this in mind, when I’m feeling blue my simple solution is to make sure that Nell gets hugged all day. It’s an instant pick-me-up that I highly recommend!!
That said, I think she might be getting fed up of being squished so much in the last 24 hours. Dom hurry home – for our daughter’s sake – I need a hug!!!
Namaste!
Lots of love,
